Kelly Seeks to Improve Service for Arlington Residents as Clerk

Press Release, May 23, 2007

Arlington, VA – Tonight, Mark Kelly announced his entry into the race for Arlington County Clerk of the Circuit Court for the November 6, 2007 election.

“The Clerk has hundreds of statutory responsibilities, and I want to put my years of day-to-day management experience to work for the people as their elected representative to the Circuit Court,” said Kelly.

“I have a vision for improving the service provided by this office to a level that is second to none. I will conduct a top to bottom review of how the Clerk’s office can become more efficient, with an emphasis on implementing new technology wherever possible. I will upgrade the Clerk’s website to help the average citizen deal more effectively with the Circuit Court. And, I will work to bring a new electronic land records filing system online in an effort to keep settlement fees on homeowners as low as possible – doing our part to make homeownership a little more affordable” Kelly continued.

“In the coming days and months of this campaign, I look forward to speaking with people across Arlington and Falls Church about the leadership I would provide in the Clerk’s office and my commitment to upholding the public trust,” said Kelly.

“Arlington voters deserve an alternative to one-party control of each and every constitutional office, and they certainly deserve an alternative to Mr. Ferguson's track record in office,” said Kelly.

“The people of Arlington and Falls Church can rest assured that as Clerk I will effectively aid in the administration of justice,” Kelly said. “And, if you buy a home, get married or serve jury duty, the Clerk’s office will be there to serve you.”

Mark spent 10 years as a public servant on Capitol Hill – eight in leadership positions including six years as a Chief of Staff. Along with his wife Keirsten, the Kellys have three children: Layne, age 4; Mia, age 2; and Luke, age 1. A lawyer, Mark has been a member of the Virginia Bar since 1996.

Kelly was endorsed tonight by the Arlington County Republican Committee.
